Control which print options work together
Hide irrelevant options, limit choices and explain combinations you cannot produce.

Rules help customers avoid specifications your print process cannot produce. Use a clear explanation of what to change, such as “Choose silk stock to add lamination.”
Build a rule
- Choose Add compatibility rule.
- Choose its effect and the affected option/choice.
- Choose the condition option, comparison and value using the customer-facing names.
- Add more conditions if needed. All conditions must match.
- Enter the customer explanation. A blocked combination requires one.
- Review the sentence preview and choose Add this rule.
- In Check prices, test both sides of the condition, then check and save normally.
| Effect | Example |
|---|---|
| Make a choice unavailable when | Gloss lamination unavailable below a chosen copy count. |
| Make a choice available only when | Matt lamination available only with silk stock. |
| Hide a whole print option when | Hide lamination for uncoated stock. |
| Show a whole print option only when | Show binding only when enough pages are selected. |
| Prevent this combination | Block a stock/finish combination with an explanation. |
Hiding an option removes its previous selected value and charge from the current calculation. Making one choice unavailable leaves the other choices available. A blocked combination prevents ordering until it is corrected.
Avoid surprises
Conditions can use choice, number, date and text options. Custom-size width/height conditions use the product's chosen dimension unit. Blank or hidden controlling values do not match, including a “not equal” condition.
Availability-only rules contain a default restriction and matching exception internally. The editor presents them as one rule; removing it removes both parts. New guided rules precede existing rules for the same target. Overlapping effects can depend on priority, while every applicable combination block still matters.
For charge replacement and price-table switching, use the existing Advanced controls. Those pricing rules are not rewritten by viewing the guided editor.
Save and check
An unfinished rule in the builder is not yet part of the draft. Add it, or choose Cancel rule editing, before saving/checking. Once committed to the draft, private autosave applies. Missing choices, invalid condition values and circular dependencies are checked before a rule is accepted.
Try each rule with a matching job, a non-matching job and any important overlap. Change the controlling stock after selecting a finish and confirm the obsolete finish is cleared. Run the ordinary example check again before publishing a changed active setup.
